God is building united 24/7 prayer throughout the greater Austin area.

Night & day prayer is not mandated in Scripture, though it is modeled in both the Old & New Testament. So why bother?

  • For God -- Who is Worthy!

In our time-driven culture, one of the greatest expressions of love is to give another person your undivided attention. This is the core of our vision for day & night praise and prayer -- that Jesus, the Lamb Who was slain, is worthy of this honor from us. A steady gaze is a simple, costly, precious gift from a unworthy people who are nonetheless beloved by God -- and as we give up other good activities to sit at His feet, we move His heart and receive His affirmation.

  • For the Church -- growing in beauty!

Followers of Jesus are at their best when visibly united in giving Him glory. John says the church has a "voice like many waters" (Rev. 19:6) -- one voice composed of many tribes & cultures & languages. Most of the 24/7 initiatives in Austin cross racial, cultural, denominational, and generational barriers. As we lift our eyes from the differences that divide us up to the One who is Worthy, we begin to look a little like Him!

  • For ourselves -- made to love Him!

As churches conduct seasons of 24/7 prayer, from one to forty days or even more, they find that ordinary churchgoers who wouldn't be caught dead in a Wednesday night prayer meeting nonetheless rise to the challenge of maintaining a constant vigil! As they do, they are surprised to discover one of the secrets of the prayer room -- that prayer can be the most enjoyable activity! Perhaps this should not surprise us, for after all, "The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever" (Westminster Confession).

  • For our city -- filled with people who are thirsty!

Abuse, depression, addiction, disease, poverty, and sin abound in our city. Many people in Austin are in desperate need of reconciliation with their Father who created them and is calling them in love to return to Him. Outreach, evangelism, and social justice is most effective when fueled by united, continuous prayer. As we pray for effective ministry, God directs and empowers us to see much more impact than we could have ever expected. And when we are exhausted by the seemingly endless work, we can return to the rest of the prayer room and rediscover that God loves us not because of what we do, but because who we are in Him.

What is happening in Austin is unique -- the collaboration between churches, the integration of art with prayer, the unity between campus ministries at UT. But it is also set in a larger context of a worldwide explosion of 24/7 prayer. In the history of the church, there have been isolated instances of united 24/7 prayer recorded -- the book of Acts, Bangor Ireland, the Moravian community, and Azusa Street, for example. Each of these instances was closely followed by a powerful wave of missions and evangelism. So as you watch the excellent "Awaken the Watchmen" video, let your mind ponder what God has in store for the earth now, as 24/7 prayer is no longer an isolated phenomenon, but a global movement.

Note that this clip only shows the first 10 minutes of the video, the last 3 minutes are not available yet due to YouTube restrictions. Please contact us if you live in Austin and would like to receive the entire video on DVD, we would be happy to send it to you.

We are still learning about 24-7 prayer and how God intends it to be enjoyable and thus sustainable. Our best tip is to pray directly from scripture. We understand that we don't know very much about prayer, so we are happy to simply take Paul's prayers, or Jesus', or Peter's, or David's, or Mary's, and pray them again and anew. Below is our prayer book, which collects many of these prayers from the Bible for easy reference. Why not pray one right now?
